Defensively, we were really strong and had a lot of guys making plays. Photo by Brian Hamilton. Defensive end Jason Manaker blocked a Cleveland punt on the next possession, with Maryville recovering it at the 1-yard line. Burks would take the direct snap on the next possession and go into the end zone for a lead with left in the first quarter.
Vaughn went 31 yards for his third touchdown of the night with left in the second quarter, putting the Rebels in front Quarterback Carson Walker Jones threw an 8-yard touchdown to receiver Carson Webb Jones to extend the lead to with left before halftime.
Gage LaDue would run for a 4-yard touchdown early in the third quarter give the Rebels a lead, which would be the final result, as neither team scored again. Carson Jones was perfect on the day, going for for yards passing with one touchdown.
Noah Vaughn finished with 83 yards and three scores on nine carries and hauled in a yard reception. If I were picking talent there are players on other teams I would pick, but some how this Maryville coaching staff gets kids ready. This is one of Maryville's most talented teams ever! Probably their most talented. The only thing that has slowed down Maryville is injuries. Maryville has a good young sophomore quarterback,A stacked backfield with reserves who could start for a lot of teams,A great offensive line with plenty of reserves and 3 very good receivers who run great routes, have pretty good speed, good size and height and catches everything thrown their way.
That is why Maryville averages 42 points a game. They could have scored a lot more have they not taken starters out early in a lot of those blowouts. Lowest amount of points scored was On defense they have good linemen, headhunting linebackers and tall rangy defensive backs who can cover a lot of field.
They have good depth on defense too. Maryville is very talented! This is the most athletic senior class I have seen. Junior class is pretty good and the Sophomore class is very good. Sophomore class is comparable to this senior class.
If this team plays to their potential, doesn't get complacent, takes one game at a time, doesn't make a lot of mistakes, excecutes well and doesn't get anymore key injuries they will be hard to beat. Maryville is on a mission. No one can stop them, except themselves.
Maryville has good team speed, Drew Galyon is probably one the of fastest players in the state. Cleveland better have a good passing game cause the running game is already gone before the game even starts.
Cole McKinney is the most athletic lb i bet he is high schooler you will meet, and the rest of the Defensive front loves to bust heads. This will be a great game but I have to miss it. Rebelron I think these Central fans are going off our performance in that one game against them.
We played horribly in the 3rd quarter 4 turnovers leading to all their points and still won the game. We should have been up at halftime instead of , due to the dropped reverse pass.
How many teams can get down 10 points against a good opponent going into the last quarter and still get it done? Not many. Central has an outstanding defense, but I was not that impressed with their offense.
Their offense had the ball at the Maryville 20, after the strip of Holt in the 3rd quarter, and didn't move an inch and had to settle for the FG. The only scoring drive they had was the 50 yarder after Thompson's fumble. Their D scored the next 2 TD's on interception returns. A lot of their points comes off their D. Just look against Powell without Milligan, they only get 14 points. Maryville may or may not win it all this year. If they play another quarter like the 3rd against Central, we'll be putting up the pads.
And I agree it will not be because of a lack of talent and you won't hear that as an excuse out of me. This team and the team are very close in talent I believe and actually through 12 games, this team is averaging more points and giving up less points than last year's team.
And to say that the team is more talented is ludicrous. Basically the OL in is the same as now except they're all pounds bigger and have about 30 more games under their belts. Go Rebs. Losing a player like brock and the starting q,b, and still ranked 1 says more than enough.
If you all do get past cleveland i will pull for you all to get the ring. Remember this though, Central returns everybody ,except the cameraman, they are the team to beat in 4A for the next 3 years.
