When it switches on midway through "US v Them" -- which has been opening their show this year -- it's definitely a palpable thrill. James Murphy and crew don't lean on it too hard but they know when to deploy it and it always pumps the endorphins up a bit. And, this being the second one I've seen, it's still a lot of fun. The band played all four of the new songs that have been making the rounds since April, including rocker "Call the Police" and "American Dream," which we learned today is the title track of LCD Soundsystem's new album which is out in September.
The crowd seemed pretty acquainted with both. Of the two others, I'm particular to "Tonight," with it's stabby synth bassline that seems plucked from Belgium , and the call-and-response lines "Tonight tonight tonight," "Touchy Touchy Touchy" have come along way since the first Brooklyn Steel show.
It's the most traditionally LCD of the four. Pow Wow was one of three new songs they played, but the only one they were playing for the first time they also played Drunk Girls and I Can Change at Music Hall. I almost didn't go to Webster Hall because I didn't want to be disappointed, but then I couldn't resist and I'm glad I did. Next up for the band is Coachella followed by a tour and then three shows at Terminal 5 I'm definitely going to at least one of those and then more touring.
The LCD setlist was exactly the same all four nights. According to Anon , James "commented on wanting to change up the set list for Sunday, but then said 'fuck it' and didn't. For the first time in 16 years, the Rolling Stones top the U. Those numbers are not to be confused with the U. Nielsen Soundscan numbers - a contest The National scored 3 in, one week earlier. This week's U.
